Flooring
Fellas,what's the gauge or thickness used in flooring boats when using aluminum?? Would 1/8" be thick enough? I found some new smaller sheets about equal to a third of a sheet of plywood in size and the price works out less than what the marine plywood is if you figure out the cost per square foot. I have a new project boat that I have to re floor.

I used 1/8 inch to floor a 1648 g 3 last month. I also put 1 and 1/2 inch blue board insulation under it for added strength and sound dealing and you want to do that also. I used a Sabres saw with a wood blade to cut it. If you use a metal blade, they get too hot and load up with aluminum and can't keep them cleaned out. You will run thru a lot of metal blades and aluminum is soft enough for a wood blade to cut it.

Thanks cevans,I've never tried it cut aluminum with the wood blades,but I have gummed up several metal blades though. How did you fasten it down,pop rivets or screws?

I ran my trolling motor wiring under the flooring and all my other wiring down the side of the Jon in 1/2 plastic water pipe. Just in case I ever needed to get to the wiring, used stainless steel screws into the ribbing so that if I ever needed to get to the wiring it would be easy to take apart. I glued marine carpet to the aluminum prior to drilling and screwing also. Got the grey carpet from lowes.
