Wally Marshall rods and reels are tailor made for crappie with the right lengths and actions. I like a 6 to 6 1/2 foot length. 4 to 6 pound test line.

Rod and reel
I use a pflueger president 35 for bass fishing and substitute it on my slip bobber pole while I’m crappie fishing. I can attest to how smooth these reels are. I really like mine.
I did just order a daiwa fuego 1000 and a 6.5’ft duckett crappie slayer from BPS to use as a casting setup. My current casting setup is a zebco spinner and a 7’’ft 13 omen black medium power fast action rod. I do like it for crappie fishing but wanted to try something else a little more sensitive. I used 2.5lb test line on the setup and I got a lot of the sensitivity I was looking for, but didn’t have the strength I needed. I’m hoping this duckett rod will help me meet in the middle with 4lb test.

Reporting back on the Daiwa fuego and duckett rod. I absolutely love it. The drag is very smooth, and the rod is a nice mid point between sensitive and sturdy that I was looking for. I put it through a good test reeling in some slabs, small largemouth, and stripes this past weekend.

Their "Pan fish Elite " is a good rod . PUT Pflueger 6925 on it and you are set .

Not sure if it's relevant to this thread because I'm not sure if BPS offers them or if they're still available, but I really like the Pflueger Purist reels if you can find one. I know that the President gets a lot of love here, but the Purist is lighter and arguably smoother than a President of the same size. I found them on closeout a year or two ago and ordered 3 or 4 of the 20 and 25 sizes and I positively love them. If I could find them again for the price I paid (I think $40-50), I'd purchase 4 or 5 more.

I use the President reels,I've got 5 of the 25s and 2 Trions. I like them all.

The bass pro micro lite elites have done well for me and can get them for a really good price when they go on sale.

Not sure if it's the same rod as Tooth mentioned, but I recommend the Micro Lite Graphite 7' light action rod paired with a Pflueger President 25 size reel. I got one several years ago for fishing weightless senko's on 6lb line. Now that I'm crappie fishing, I bought two more and a couple 20 size Presidents.

The micro lite elite is a bass pro branded spinning reel, sorry I didn't specify. I agree with all the comments about the Pfluger president reels, thay are great as well.
