    Default Jerk baits for Crappie

Some years back while bass fishing I caught a very nice crappie on a Rattlin' Rogue in Clown pattern. Now I see Rapala pushing their X-Rap 4 for Crappie. Saw A video from Linder's Angling Edge on it. Anyone use these baits in their quest to catch more crappie?

I know a guy who catches a lot of big crappie around boat docks on Lake of the Ozarks.

One of prime spawning spots is along some rip rap. Those crappie hold in less than 24 inches of water so you can't use a jig or cork because those fish are so shallow. I use a tiny crank bait to fish those areas. I never thought about but a tiny jerkbait would work just as well.

BFSers use them for other species all the time, especially trout. I've played with them for the last couple of years and caught a fair amount of crappie. Many are sinking models like the tiny Rapala countdowns. I've caught a few as deep as 10 ft. Loads of fun. Name: 20220222_200902.jpg

I've bought a couple of X-Raps. They are one and a half inches long weighing one sixteenth of an ounce. They are in a pattern called "glass ghost" and gold. The X-Rap suspends. I've also bought a clown pattern from Ozark Trail (Wal-Mart) but it does not suspend. Gonna throw it on 8# clear fluorocarbon attached to 10# braid in high vis yellow. I'll cast it on a 6 and one half foot ultralight using a Bass Pro Light action spinning reel. Going to Lake Ouachita with the family in late March. Will look for submerged weed beds and rip rap for spawners and pre-spawners. Wish me luck!
