I have caught crappie up north in super clear water dropping jigging raps just over deep grass. watch some ice fishing videos to get an idea of the cadence you want. I usually did short strokes to draw fish in and then play keep away with it coming up with a "twitching" as you go. Ice jigging spoons work very well as well.

I heard guys using them in real deep clear lakes but kinda pricey compared to jigs

With all the hooks in that bait I would imagine a big brush top would get it away from me very quickly. May get one anyway and give it a try.

There are other options, I used northland's puppet minnows a lot that are a bit less pricey. If you do some searching I know there are some guys up north that make some home made lures that I have found work just as well. I found them in the bargain bins of tackle shops so not sure where to start that search but I would venture some walleye pages might be a good start. There is also one from moonshine jigs that have in my opinion better paint. I will say like anything else if you want to save some money on them wait till towards the end of the Ice season and stuff goes on crazy sales.

You can also remove the treble. They will suck it in and you'll get them regardless.
