Would love to know the answer to that one
Can a bait change or tactic result in more slabs vs dinks?
In other words, if your catching a bunch of dinks should you just weed through them or change your tactics in order to find the slabs?
Would love to know the answer to that one
You need to move, slabs and dinks don't hang out together very often.
Single pole mafia
You can try to put on a heavier jig to get down below the dinks. The slabs can be found in the lower water column when the dinks are up top. As been said before be prepared to move if this does not work.
It works! I started catching a bunch of dinks then I lowered my jig about a foot or so and BAM! I caught a couple of slabs.
Thanks Icookie good info.
I use a bigger jig alot but move anytime I start catching dinks.
During Ice fishing season, the fish come in around dark. It makes it harder to move around as they are high in the water column and you don't want to spook then. When we start out catching dinks, they are usually the first to feed as they are in a hurry to get the bait before the bigger ones. Changing baits has worked but by and large a heavier jig to get past them is always the best.

Bigger jigs... Instead of a 2" bait, but it to 3" or 3.5".
You might still catch the odd dink, but the majority of the bites you get will be from better sized fish.
Sometimes it is as simple as waiting for a school of larger fish to move in ( or better yet come back later and see if that has occurred).
