For the longest time I pretty much exclusively used black or green pumpkin. Now I am a fan of this particular color that Zoom makes their trick and finesse worms. Forget what its called, but its black, with a transparent red covering. Never was a fan of bright colorred plastics (red, pink, purple, etc) just because they seem so unnatural and unlike anything the fish would normally encounter in its environment. But I'm fidning more and more that they really catch fish!
Interestingly enough I have had little success with 'baitfish' colorred plastics. I thought they would work really well.

these nice smallies were all caught on green pumpkin shaky worms and yamasenkos. a few nice smallies for the pan never hurts.these photos are myself (top) and a co-worker (bottom photo) who I took on his first smallmouth fishing trip.
