Ambassadeur 5000 - 5500 for crappie, bass, sandies
6000 for catfish, stripers, hybrids...love to hear those baitclickers sound!

And I'm talking about the 80's-90's models, not the newer crap they sell at Wally World!

I have two 5500C's from the early seventies. Both cleaned up and parked in great shape. Great reels, but wanted to try the new stuff.

I just picked up a Daiwa Mega Force 100TSH... 7.1:1 gear ratio with 15# flourocarbon line. Casts like a dream and has great power bringing in the fish. But the feature I like the best is the twitching bar at the top of the reel. You can do partial or full twitches with the bar, and anywhere from 1-7 inches will reel in... great for slow twitching live mudbugs down the banks.... slaughter'em all day with them.

They got a good deal here at Dicks on the Ambassadeur silver max with a 6 and a half lightning rod for 69 dollars, and you get a 20 dollar mail in rebate. I bought 2 of them and like them so far. 49 bucks is hard to beat when just the reel alone at Wally world is 65. They had both right and left hand retrieves

I have a citica that is my favorite but still like the older ambassadeur 5000 and 5500 and 6000 for the heavy stuff.

I have quite a few for different applications. My favorite reels are shimano chronarchs 50 mg's. It is on my texas rig set up. Second would be my curado 100B My most used is a curado 200 D for carolina rig. I only have one Abu (Revo Winch for deep crankbaits - not too crazy about it, and a few quantums - but the rest are all shimano's).
