I've got that same engine in my Tacoma.
That is the amount of oil that the 3.5 litter engine in the Tacoma takes. Not to stop there yiu have to remove the skid plate to access the remote cartridge oil filter.
Because the old way they had done the 4.0 v6 was some terrible. Oil plug in bottom of pan. Remove and drain, reinstall plug, stand up,. Emove remote oil filter,( screw on type) from the remote mounted top front right hand front of engine. Replace filter, fill with 5 quarts of oil. Repeat in 5,000 miles.
The 3.5 is almost the same with the addition of a cognitive exam and an aerobics workout.

They just brought in the new 3.5 twin turbo that they will use in the Tundra to display here at the plant. That time would turn a Tacoma intona rocket ship.
I fuss about the oil changes on the 3.5 liter. So far it is a good, strong engine. 5000 mile oil changes and the oil comes out clean enough you ca. See light pass through it. Better fuel economy than my last 2 4 liters.

5000 miles is about as long as I would want to go on an oil change but they told me at the dealership I could go to the 10000 miles. I'm pretty much old school 5000 works better for me.

Back in the day it was 3000. Toyota recommended 5000. That is what the maintenance interval is set for in the computer. I run the Mobile 1 synthetic. I have ran it in the ones I have owned with no problems. This reminds me I need to order more filters since I used the last one.

If those engineers had to work on them, you wouldn’t have to remove the skid plate!
I’m a 5000 mile guy.
Of course my Yamaha on my boat uses some goofy amount of oil also, 7.1 or some such.

The engineers we have around here are a hoot. Had heat treat oven not working correctly. He looked at me a serious as he could be and said I think the elements are half bad. I asked him was he serious. ( that melted his crayons) he gave me his electrical pedigree. When I asked him how many 60watt light bulbs he has changed out because they were only putting put 30 Watts of light. He laughed and said none light bulbs are either good or bad. I replied exactly the same as heating elements. He left me alone and let me fix it. Ha

My 6.0 powerstroke takes 15 qts so I usually put in 14 oil and one qt of archoil additive. I am A 5K goy too and it can get expensive....

These long intervals usually only fall into the "ideal conditions" category. Meaning that you hop in, drive on the highway for a good while, shut it down, and do it all over again.
The way most of us use our vehicles falls more into the heavy use category, frequent short trips, towing, city driving, etc. This is why the industry has had so many problems with oil sludging. People are advised to change it at these super long intervals no matter how they drive.
