If it has a timing belt it could have broke or jumped. Or it might be crank position sensor. Usually with the sensor though they usually just won’t start but crank over.
2001 Buick 6cyl. Car was running fine. On starting it tried to start but backfired hard enough to break the pcv valve/ pressure sensor mount. The same continues each time we try to start it. I looked for a vac line problem but found none. Any ideas? EGR? Only code set was for cyl 1 misfire and evap vent.

Those don't have a timing belt. They're pushrod engines with a short timing chain that is not likely to fail, although it is a possibility.
They had some common intake gasket leaks, as well as failures with the ignition control module. CKP is a possibility as well, but there's no way to diagnose it online.
