OF COURSE! You caught it, just the method was with a dip net. Don't know any regulations that method is not legal. Do what I did, take` son along and have him pass detector test
If you hook and reel a fish to the top of the water and he comes unhooked but you still get him with a dipnet,is this a legal fish?It would be in the back of my mind if I had to pass a lie detector test in a tournament is the reason I'm asking.

Well it’s going to be according to what that tournament rules are. As some don’t allow dip nets to be used. But if they do a catch is a catch.

Okay, so....say it was a potential state record fish? Would that go under the "hook and line" method, and maybe NOT be a record? Or would it go under the "alternative methods" category and be a record?
Ok now Joedog is going to force us to split atoms. Ha This is my opinion only if I had what I thought was a state record then I would get him in the boat the best way I could. But I would be ethical about it. By being ethical it might make me be disqualified for that particular tournament but I would mount that baby after getting the state or all time record. Turns into another question recognition or money. Your choice just be truthful and ethical about the choice you make.

Think you’re overthinking this.
