Stockton is our highest priority walleye lake and is stocked annually.
Is the conservation department still stocking Walleye in Stockton Lake? I have not been catching any under the limit size so it seems to me that they are not stocking walleye any more. Checking to see if anyone has been catching smaller walleye on the lake. Thanks.

they are still stocking Mark Twain as well arn't they?
No. Mark twain was removed from the stocking list due to poor returns on the stocked fish.

Are the walleye successful at spawning themselves, or are populations solely dependent on stocking-vs-harvest/natural kills?
I heard that at Smithville, they "spawn", but...they don't really spawn. Nothing comes of it. Is that true? Is that true in other MO reservoirs?

They spawn on Stockton, and doing well too.
there is some limited reproduction at all lakes but not at levels high enough to sustain the populations. we aren't sure why. Either the eggs don't hatch or the fry don't survive. we used to stock every other year so we could sample each fall and compare stocking success to reproductive success. Reproductive success in years without stocking was extremely limited. The decision was made to move to annual stockings since stockings are necessary to maintain the population. Annual stockings are better in case you have a bad production year and you don't get as many walleye, you follow it up the next year and there is little decline in the fishery.
are they still stocking in Norfork as well?
Yes, 176,000 per year are scheduled for NorFork.
Wipers have been caught on Greers Ferry with a belly full of walleye fry.
