The tape is provided free of charge as a convenience to anglers. It is not intended as a “true” measure and the quality control on the product is not what you would expect from a solid tape purchased for a price. As with any plastic sticker it is subject to distortion. It is best to use a solid measure that is much less likely to shrink or expand. Sorry for any inconvenience guys.

I prefer the solid measuring containers that hold the fish and have clear deliniation. I've seen too many fish dropped while trying to measure on a tape on the gunwale of a boat.

Personally, I don't keep fish under 10" anyway, so I would have nothing to worry about. Just seems like fish in the 9" range don't have enough shoulders to make a good fillet. I only keep 8-10 fish on most days, and I want those to be the best quality I can find.

My brother had one on his dock and a visitor of his was fined because of a short fish at LO. It was a quarter of an inch off. Yes, maybe they should have check it's accuracy but if it is given by the Department you would think they would only put out something that is used for measuring legal fish be correct. I have seen and still see these on boats, docks and tackle boxes over the years. I used to use these in my younger years because the price was right and if given by the Conservation Department it must be OK. I now have the plastic measuring device and it is easier to measure fish and did check it for accuracy. I have purchased one for my brothers dock also.
