Sometimes you luck into a ratio that keeps them in check. Whether it’s predators, lack of spawning habitat, or other factors. I can think of two ponds like that. I can also think of 15 ponds full of 4” crappie.
I have a nice spring feed pond I own and have fished this pond for decades. Originally was told there were no crappie. However, Over the years I have caught 4 crappie and they were monsters. One was 18.5 inches long, there others were 14-15 inches. (Caught big guy with a 10 inch worm on a texas rig fishing for bass.)
pole and has lots of bass and bluegill, has a history of channel Fish, but I think they're all gone now.
Anyone, have an experience with a pond with having- rare but Large -crappie. It goes against everything you read that crappie will over take a small pond.
Thanks for the input.

Crappie will do quite well in ponds. Best to stock black crappie. White crappier are very prolific and can quickly become growth stunted due to over population
You have the exception rather than the norm for Kansas farm ponds. Low density/high quality can and does happen, but more often the crappie overpopulate and cause problems in smaller Kansas waters.
