Another question on Lake Shawnee has there been any thoughts on maybe closing it off to pleasure boating or limit it some how. Since I live close to the lake I run over there alot after work to put in a little time on the water. I would say almost everytime I'm there I either see or hear about a close call with a boat or a boat and jet ski. It can be busy at times and its a small lake to have that much traffic on. I know it would not go over good with the pleasure boating crowd but it might save a life or two.

    Dsage,

Lake Shawnee is owned and operated by Shawnee County and the fisheries are managed cooperatively with assistance from KDWP through the Community Fisheries Assistance Program (CFAP). Shawnee County operates the lake as a 'multi-use' lake and efforts are made to meet the demands of a wide array of user interests. KDWP's involvement deals primarily with fish management and angler access. Your question/concerns may be better served if presented to Shawnee County as they make the decisions on lake activities outside of those that KDWP is responsible for under the CFAP Memorandum of Understanding.

    Default KDWP Video

Here is another 'fishy video' from KDWP videographer Mike Blair. I had a good time working with Mike on this project.

What do you guys think of the KDWP Outdoors Today videos? Do any of you have any recommendations for future topics or other comments? Mike covers all aspects of KDWP and the great outdoors and he's done a good job covering fish sampling, hatchery production, fishing techniques, and the fishing experience. If you have suggestions, I'd be glad to hear them!

That is what I thought but last time I said something to the a park ranger he said it was not up to Shawnee Co. the State has control of the lake now. I know many people that run into this problem at the lake. One was going to writen a ticket for using a throw net, becasue it was not allowed when the city had control of the lake, the ranger had no clue the rule changed lucky for him he called me and I had a name of one of the heads that told me it was ok, so the ranger called and no ticket was handed out. Thank you for the reply. I will again try to contact Shawnee Co. about the issue.

    Hey, Craig,
Good video, good subject. Very well-deserved. You do a great job keeping us informed. I'd rather get the facts than listening to the rumor mill. Keep up the good work.

    Hey Craig,

I enjoy your videos and I am a big fan of this "ask the biologist" feature on this site. I might make a couple of video suggestions: habitat issues, water quality issues, and take a kid fishing (the right way - so they beg to go fishing again!).

    Thanks,
    PK

Craig, thanks for your time. I have enjoyed Mike Blair's videos since the turkey with a shotgun! I think it would make a great series if he would introduce and give a short history of each of our biologists. I would be interested in knowing how you came to be a biologist, where you came from, etc. Thanks again!
