    Default Need a little help............

I'm looking for a line counter to put on my b'n'm trolling poles to set my jigs at the correct depth and to stop all this guessing on what depth I'm fishing. I also started fishing a new place and I don't know how to judge 30ft of line with a 12 pole. I've looked at the counters on ebay, cabelas and bps, theres not that many out there to choose from but I figure someone on here has some good tips or suggestions. Thanks in advance.

I was at wal-mart the other day, they are stocking a berkley line if fishing accessories, and they had some fairly cheap priced line counters.

ben, i'ved tried those cheaper line counters like you attach to your rod in the deeper waters of lake monticello and they didn't work very well for me...i've used up to 3 string bobber stoppers at 5' intervals before and that works pretty good if you get the knot good and tight and trim the strings off

I use eleven foot poles and instead of using line counters I measured out from my reel in 1 foot increments and painted a mark on my poles at 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 feet. After the initial 11 feet of line I just use the marks to pull off the extra line I need. I always know the exact depth that I am fishing. When I catch a fish, instead of reeling it in, I just strip the line in like you do when flyfishing. When you get the fish off just toss the jig back overboard and your are still at the same depth.

Thanks guys, I'll try the cheapest way first. Tony, I caught a few yesterday down at the harbor. The wind was to bad to go back to Washington so I ended up at the harbor and surprised myself. The wind killed me but I found them finally in 30 fow fishing 23ft deep. Good size too.
