All of those fish were cuaght at Lake Ouachita last Saturday. We caught quite a few. Most were cuaght shallow. They are starting to move up on to beds. Everyone we cleaned had eggs in them.

You make me ill man. I fished all afternoon Sunday on Ouachita and didnt get a bite. I was however fishing out of a 30 foot party barge with the wife and kid. Huge 4 & 5 foot gar were everywhere back in the cove we were fishing. So I think that may have scared them off. We did see a group of about 10 to 12 weidgeon. Sure thought that was unusual for this time of year. This weekend I have the kitchen pass to go for the weekend in the real fishing boat and there is a cold front on the way. Just my luck.
Where on Ouachita are you catching them? I have a slip at North Shores on the north side of the lake and I dont ever fish any other areas of the lake. Just wondering.
    Thanks

My dad has a place over at Shangri La. I dont know if you know where thats at, but it's more in the Western end of the lake. We basically just fish around this end of the lake. We have a couple of spots that we really like to fish. We haven't been fishing the lake for crappie for very long and are just starting to figure it out. My dad and brother just got over there and are going to try to catch some more. I wish I was going, but I got to kill me a turkey(hopefully)!

Well thats about as far as you can get from me. I dont envy you tommorow. I dont know what would be harder, killing a turkey after a huge cold front and high winds or catching a crappie on Ouachita.
Have you guys put out any brush piles yet? If so what kind of areas are you sinking them and are they or have they been producing. I just dont know with all the cover on Ouachita if it will be a waist of time to put out brush piles.

We have put out brush piles the last two years, but to be quite honest with you, we haven't even fished them. Most of the piles that we put out, we put deep. Right now, we are catching all the fish pretty shallow. We will probably fish them post spawn and in the fall. I dont think that it would be a waste of time. I know people that put them out and catch fish over them. Most of the fish we are catching now are over moss flats, or around brush up close to the bank(fallen over trees, etc.)

How much did that biggest crappie weigh? It looks like a real slab.

Man, I'm not really to sure. The little weigher was broke and we kept getting different weights. If I had to guess, It would be in between 3 & 3.50, but that is just a guess. All I know is that it was BIG

I'm gonna be living in Hot Springs this summer and working there. Me and the wife were thinking about hitting Ouachita to fish and perhaps camp there.

Problem is, we don't have a boat. lol If I can convince buddies to come down with theirs we'll fish it up.

I'll take any suggestions on spots or tactics for catching papermouths, in Ouachita, in June/July. Anything, I'm ignorant. Depths, baits, colors, tactics, etc.

Great looking mess of fish up there. That slab was a good one.
