Default AGFC is looking for ideas

There are going to meetings about Dardanelle and Arkansas River system fishing from what I was told . There will be a wide spectrum of anglers invited from what I hear . Crappie , Bass , Catfish and even commercial fishermen will be involved to submit ideas. My idea that I hope will be looked at is reducing limits on Crappie down to 15 or 20 and length limit of over 12''. I think Dardanelle could really be a Crappie hotspot in a year or two if it was implemented. If anyone has any suggestions to pass on in the meeting please feel free to post it on here . Hope it helps AGFC find ways to improve fishing and give fishermen some input .

Cut crappie limit to 20 state wide.

I agree. 15-20 is all anyone needs per person. A slot limit would be good to protect some of the larger fish as well. As far as Dard goes, I would love to see them fill the flats in Illinois bayou full of timber like they did at Choctaw on Greers. Just load it down on both sides of the Hwy and well out in the bay right off the creek channels.

A great video here on their Greers improvement

I have been selected to serve on the Stakeholder Advisory Committee (SAC). This is a group of 8-11 people which represent the primary river-users. Feel free to let me know what your concerns are whether you sport fish , commercial fish , use it for power or industry . Should be people from all areas of use involved as the commission wants people from all over that use the river. Shoot me a few ideas before our meeting next month . I for one would like to see limits and slots on game fish changed . Tournament Cat fishermen may be concerned about amount of commercial Catfishing. I would like to see more habitat improvements as well like being done on our big northern lakes.

The places in south Arkansas such as coal pile that use to be world class fishing is now poor fishing. The water from the river into the back water is silted in. If you drive the levee around coal pile area in the winter there is several thousand water turkeys in the cypress trees. No idea what the solution would be but a great place to start a discussion.

Thanks Nimrod for representing Crappie guys. As much whining and complaining I’ve heard recently about Dardanelle the bass guys may try to hijack meeting!
