Default FFS making the fish smarter

My local shallow lakes are getting tougher, big fish getting smarter and more timid. What you could get away with at a 30 feet range 3 years ago seems to be expanded to 40- 50 feet now. Pitching 25 feet out with a 16' pole is close to my limits. Im seeing them get wind of me and just trucking off at 25 feet. No more searching for fish these days with FFS. No more making a fish come to your bait or having to work a bit for its meal. We all just head straight to them and apply the pressure immediately. More fish on the bottom it seems like and more feeding at night. Going to have to be sneaky and quiet this winter to drop on these lethargic, cold, big roamers.

Nice spread of live bait at night.

I remember years ago some tournament fishermen spider rigging turning off all electronics on high pressured lakes . Not sure about new electronics but the Humminbirds using old style imaging made a loud clicking noise and sound travels better in water.

I have heard of this before.

Whats ironic, I use to do some spear fishing in my much younger days. I would lay on the bottom just north of the narrows at Greers. It was a steep bank coming off a small island. We would just lay there in about 15 feet of water on this steep rock slope and I would use a fish clicker which would make a snapping noise from a thin piece of metal being bent where it would snap and pop back. It drove the fish crazy with curiosity, and they would come right to you and check you out. Needless to say, we ate a lot of 1-2lb Kentuckys back then and were happy.

    youtube "The fish thumper".
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and one that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.

When I fished tournaments, prior to FFS, we would turn out sonar off and just use the maps to stay in the area we prefished. It made all the difference in catching fish. A past National Champion showed me that trick.
I still apply that today when I am spider rigging. Just need to know where they are and cover water.
