I have a 17' Tracker that runs out to 34mph with a 60. I may be wrong but I dont think that 40 will get you as fast as you wish to go
Hey guys, I have a 2002 40hp 2 stroke mercury on a 165 stick steer made by fisher. Looks like a tracker. Its a pretty heavy boat and has wood decking in it. But I am only getting 24-26mph out of it. Where I have been fishing the most is a 12 mile boat ride. I am needing to cut that ride time down alot to increase my fishing time. Any mechanics out here know if this is an appropriate speed for my 40hp or are there things I can modify or alter to be sitting around 40mph?

The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
That is only my opinion on the matter. There may be some room for improvement

You must be fishing oxbow on lower Mississppi River . May just need a larger outboard motor
I had a Tracker Panfish stick steer with a 35 hp 2 stroke mercury. I had tilt/trim so I could fine-tune it when wide open. 28MPH by GPS was my max.

I have a 16’ xpress stick steer with a 40hp. It will run 32 when things are perfect. Most of the time around 30
