Default Shell Lake or Blackfish Lake or Cow Bayou info

Anyone fish or know anything about Shell or Blackfish lakes off Hwy 70 in Shell Lake, near Earle? Cow Bayou along Hwy 79 near Soudan/Brickys? Cant find much info for any of them, just looking for other places near Crittenden county to fish besides Midway, Wappanocca and bear creek. I’ve given up on Horseshoe. Thanks for any information.

Hey welcome to Crappie.Com from NW AR. We lived in Jonesboro twenty two years ago and yes we fished Cow Bayou but not Shell or Blackfish. It is my understanding, that they have cut the little stream in half with a culvert which denies access to the full length of the Bayou. Years ago we caught some quality fish there. Like all oxbows you had to catch the river at a favorable level - if you have a small boat it would be worth checking out the north end. I think the only access now is down a couple of field rows and really not for sure if it is private land or not. Also, my guess is if there is a bait shop around Marianne they could give you more details.

The old AGFC ramp at the river end of Cow Bayou is no good because of the culverts that were put in. Blackfish, to my understanding, is small boats and paddles and you have to pay the man to park.
Not sure why you give up on Horseshoe. There are some pretty decent fish in there. They do tend to be a little finicky at times, especially behind a big rain

Check out Burnt Cane if you don’t like the others

May till October last year I got tired of the “pleasure” boaters and just never could locate any crappie to speak of from May till November. Last year was my 1st year fishing Horseshoe and I missed the spring time fishing their. Just looking at other fishing options. Plan on hitting Wappanocca March 4th, hopefully warmer weather next week will set the crappie their up to start moving into a pre spawn pattern.

Better get to Wappanocca super early or mid day. The locals will cover it up

We try to avoid Horseshoe on weekends due to pleasure boaters. On Saturday, we always quit by 11 am. As "arkcrappie" said there are good crappie in Horseshoe. It just takes a while to figure out how to catch them. It should be getting right toward the end of March.
