    Default Lake Conway experiance

So Sunday my wife and I decide to go see if we can catch some crappie. I used to fish Lake Conway with my buddy, but he passed away in 2007 so I haven't been much since. So we launched at Palarm Creek access, go to the boat trail and everything is looking good nice day pretty smooth water and all the sudden the boat hits a stump and my wife looks like a helicopter trying to keep her balance and we both are startled and admit a little scared. I said to her we are in the clearly marked boat trail and we hit a stump what the heck? So we go on heading toward the north end of the lake and it gets too shallow so we turn around and head to a patch of cypress trees and boom hit another stump hard and it throws me forward and the kill cord comes off and kills the motor. So were on top of this stump and no worries until I realize the kill switch is broken. We rock and rock and paddle in a circle because we cant get off the stump. (for about an hour) I then tell my wife I remember why I dislike Lake Conway.(LOL) I disassemble the switch and get it to where it will crank finally and we get off the stump easily. Go toward the cypress and as were going hit a couple more stumps. Get settled in and fish for a while and never even get a bite. So we decide lets go and we make the short trip back but it seems very long because im having to hold the button with one hand and run the throttle with the other. It was an experience for sure. So now we are looking at other options. LOL

Do the lower it to winter pool? If so that’s one reason.

LOL! Sounds like you were on Lake Conway. The lake is Low due to winter pool requirements. But on a good day and normal pool there is always the risk of hitting stumps, That is one of the beautiful parts about Lake Conway. Read My Signature at the bottom and it is a full explanation of Lake Conway. There is no Changing Lake Conway, It is what it is. It is a very good place to tear up equipment if your less than experienced in navigating on it. There are stumps everywhere you look in Lake Conway even if you don't see them they are there. The best part about lake Conway, is there are no wake boats, jet ski's or ski boats. The stumps seem to be a natural deterrent. I wish there was a way to grow more stumps out there.

I agree with Lkconwayguru, that’s the best part about Conway and why it’s my favorite lake to fish. Hardly have bass boats flying by and causing wakes, no ski boats or anything. And personally I feel fisheries loaded with structure like that produce more and better quality fish. IMO. I also got hung on one last Sunday and long story short, things went south and ended up in the freezing water. But I will be back again!

Not just Conway . Several lakes are kept lower in fall/winter and can tear your stuff up if you don't know where to run . Wear your pfd and use kill switch for safety.

Well, I was on a deep clear reservoir Sunday with nary a stump in sight, constantly buzzed by 20 ft bass boats and we had the same luck at catching crappie. Did mark some good brush though
