Default Why Crappie vs all the rest….

This thread spins off another thread.

Why do YOU crappie fish vs fishing for the other species.

For me there are several reasons:

1). I like the simple style. I sit on the front of my aluminum jon boat, scull with one hand and jig with the other. It’s very primitive.

2). It ties me to an uncle I really love. He taught me to crappie fish like that, so when I do it “his” way I feel like I’m carrying something from one generation to the next

3). It’s cheap. I lose I crappie jig and I’m out 27 cents. Bass lures can go over $7.00 each easily.

4). It’s difficult. A bass will hit anything moving. You have to be pretty dialed in to catch crappie.

    5). That thump!

I fish for whatever bites and use different methods. Next week, it’s saltwater fly fishing in Florida.

That said, I grew up crappie fishing with my dad. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for it.

    Great table fare.

Fishing can be as cheap or as expensive as you make it.

Reminds me of my Grandpa and Grandma who used to winter in FL and bring specks home to us in the spring!

    The thump

My wife enjoys it too which makes it awesome!

Crappie are a bigger challenge than any fish I have in Arkansas except maybe walleye. I'm not close to them.
They are great table fare (especially as crappie cakes)
I get to teach others how to catch them and enjoy their success.

Because they are the best tasting fish in my home lake.
It takes a lot to figure out what they want, sometimes.

    Because of crappie.com!
I wanted to read about bass fishing but most of those forums are vicious.
