Lake Charles...

Hey all. Havent posted on here in a while. Kind of let fishing just fall to the side for the last few years, but my son just recently started taking a liking to it. We fish out of the floodway some and go to mallard/big lake. We basically fish for whatever is biting. However, we are looking to get on some bream or crappie as i think he would be happier with those. We bank fish, but ive been looking to get a small boat. For now, im looking for somewhere i can still bank fish. Im not necessarily tied to nea, but i dont want to travel 3 hours away to fish. Looking for something close to home. Anyone got any suggestions?
Yup lake Charles good for the kids to crappie bank fish during spawn in the state park cove.
Keep it simple, ultralight rod, 4 lbs test line, 1/64 oz trout magnet bison with a trout magnet float at 9-12". They will catch a bunch
Sometimes if they fuzzy I also put a white powerbait crappie nibble on it.
No sizes to most crappie on the bank, sometimes you'll catch a 10 inch fish. But fun to catch!
Cast near brush in the water you can see or near bank, keep moving till you find em.
I always figured it was better to drive 2 hours, catch fish for 4 and drive 2 hours back home than drive 30 minutes, not catch any for 6-7 hours and drive 30 minutes back home. That said the bar pits south of Marked Tree can be good. Think they are called Monterey. Rainbow landing is the name on a couple of agfc signs.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and one that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.
