    Default Lake Charles, Monday

My wife and I fished Lake Charles yesterday. Caught fish in the mouth of a cove in a about 15 foot of water on road runners.

Also found fish in the off a creek channel in about 6 foot of water.

The good is that we caught about 45, the bad is that the biggest was 8 1/2 inches.

This lake is known for a lot of crappie but the majority of them are small.

Any advice for finding a few bigger ones among all the babies??

Yep...I don't understand how the crappie have been the same size for so long. Ever since I moved to Jonesboro back in '99, that's all I've ever heard about the lake. They really need to knock off that length limit so that some of those small crappie can be harvested.

    Ceb,

They took the length limit off this year. I kept three of the fish just to see if I could get anything out of them and you really can't. I guess some people are scaling them but I've never really been into that. If you went out and caught 30 of them you might have a mess for two people.

This sounds weird to say but they are not just your normal 8 inch fish, they are small 8 inchers. I don't know if that makes sense or not but if you saw them you would know what I mean.

Regardless, we saw several other groups filling thier buckets with them. If a bunch of fish are taken out of there in the next couple of years I hope it will help.

I will be back out there Saturday. I thought of throwing a small crankbait or fishing a minnow just off the bottom. Any opinions on whether this might produce some bigger fish....assuming they are there.
