Nice report!!!!! That lake has some mega catfish in it!!!!!
Fished from 10:00 - 5. 42* water. I could see the fish but only had 4 bites today. 1 bass, 2 crappie & a sea monster that tried to turn my 10' rod into a pretzel. 20' down in 55' of water. Caught both crappie & hooked the sea monster on the same tree. At least the first trip of the year didn't end in a skunking. I tried casting but no luck at all. Everything came vertical jigging.

Thanks for the report. I was fishing Dardanelle during crappie camp a couple of years or so ago and they had a prize for the biggest trash fish caught, anything other than a crappie qualified. I pitched in next to a brush pile I had found on my graph and something hit that jig and made a run for it and I never checked it for a second. My reel then didn't have a drag on it and in a split second it straightened my pole out and came to the end of that 20lb braid and pop and it was gone and so was my prize. I figured a catfish or a Buffalo but who knows.

Went today to the same area. Didn't have a single bite all day. I constantly marked fish at 30' & could see my jig right above them on the screen but nadda. Tried spider rigging grubs & single pole in the trees like last weekend. I wonder if they would have hit a minnow?
Greers is not like crappie fishing on any other lake! The water is clear the crappie, fish are spooky,if you get your trolling motor over them they will not bite,We have to back off the tree or brush and pitch the jig or minnow into the brush or tree with 2-4 lb SOS line,1/64- sometimes a 1/32 oz jighead!!The only other way to ketch them is trolling a crankbait through them in the trees and at $6-10 dollars a piece gets expansive!!

I can understand staying off a brush pile & casting to it but not sure how to do that in standing timber. Do you mark them in the standing timber, toss a marker & come back later? Will they stay in that spot?
Same as the brushpile,If you are fishing in 20 ft of water and the crappie, bass ect are suspended at 10 ft and you run your trolling motor over the fish it will spook them.Like my grandfathers illustration"if you kick a brush pile with a rabbit in it will spook the rabbit out of the brush pile" We stay back away from the tree/Brushpile,point the nose of your boat into the wind just a long cast away from the tree or brush pitch or a short cast and watch your line count it down 1001,1002,1003,1004,1005,1006,1007,1008,1009 1010 should be close to 10 ft depending on size of jighead/line ect until you see your line" 2-4 lb test" jump or the jig hits the bottom, tree or brush, reel slowly, slowly in repeat until you ketch another fish or fish quit biting!!Takes a lot of patience and practice,

Thanks Jackie. That's great advice, should be heeded on lakes like Norfork too.
