I try to avoid using bug spray . If it eats rod handles and plastics , just what does it do to you ?

Black flies(buffalo gnats), mosquitoes, biting flies, all are very irritating while fishing or doing any outdoor activity. If you ever want a change of pace go to Lake Conway and bump the cypress tree limbs, the stump gnats as I call then will swarm you, you cant breath for the cloud of them. And if that aint bad enough most of those cypress trees also have a red wasp nest the size of a basketball hanging there on the limbs that is covered by massive numbers of wasp. Piss them off and a few gnats or mosquitoes don't seem so bad.
Welcome to the home of the, boat eating, trolling motor busting, prop bending, lower unit smashing, stump filled mud hole called Lake Conway.

been known to see a big ole cottonmouth sunning on a cypress limb just waiting to fall next to you if you aren't paying attention and run under a tree limb while tying a new jig or just drifting in the wind. pay attention out there!

Bet those are male mosquitos on those cypress trees. Lots of them on old town,

as LCG stated, they are gnats, not mosquitos. His term is "stump gnats", although others refer to them as "wood gnats". They do swarm you to death, but in fishing Conway since the 60's, I have never had one bite me.

Bet that is what I see at old town. Figured they were male skeeters since they don't bite and are bigger than typical gnats. Look like they have feathery antennae. They hatch out nightly at midway. I've seen their remains piled up 3 inches deep along the side of the boat where the wind had blown them. About 11 or so they turn in and the catfish do too.
