    Default Lake Norfork

Planning a family down to Bull Shoals/ Lake Norfork Area. Does anybody know of a good Crappie, Striper, and Walleye guide. This will be for two adults and a eight year old. Looking for seperate trips. I would really like a good Crappie guide for the eight year old. Introduce him to the that kind of fishing fury.
    Thank you

Try Bink's Guide Service in Norfork, listed in the directory as 870/499-7384, as far as I know he's one of the best around, but he ain't cheap.

    Got Lift,

My wife and I just got back from Lake Norfork. It's a beautiful area. Many resorts and many guide services, hard to recommend one but as flyflinger says Binks is one you may want to consider.(according to all info that I have read he is good). If your 8-year old likes to fish this will be a great trip for him/her. We used to go down there (from Chicago) on spring breaks when our kids were young and had a great time. My current avatar is our daughter when she was 7 or 8 with 2-18" Norfork crappies. My son (think he was 12 or 13) and I had a guide one day-mainly for stripers. We also fished for bass and crappie with the guide, but we had been catching them all along. Timing for the trip down there (crappie especially) is the key. We have been down there 4 or 5 times before last week--all were in March except for one that was in July or August, which turned into mainly fishing for catfish as the crappie were tough to catch.
You may also consider fishing for trout below the Norfork Dam. That may be a little tough fishing for your 8 year old and success is dependent on how much water is being released from Lake Norfork.
Good Luck and I am sure you will be getting some more names of guides at Norfork!

If you want to have a good time, especially for your 8 year old, go trout fishing. There are two great trout guides, David Capps at 1-800-268-FISH, web site "www.cappsguideservice.com" or Jim Britlinger, web site "www.lingersguideservice.com". I have used David, but not Jim. A friend of mine uses Jim, and catches a lot of fish. Great experience. David Capps can put you on a wallleye guide if that is what you really want. Bink is not a very good striper guide. Two of the best on the lake are Jim Nichols, and the other is Roy Proudy. I don't have Jim's home number, but Roy's is (870) 424-2496. Bink strictly jigs for fish, and your wife and son won't be able to do it. Jim and Roy use live bait, and catch many more fish than Bink. I have used both in the past, but won't use Bink ever again. I have a place in Mountain Home, AR, which is right there at Norfolk Lake. In fact, I am leaving this next Thursday for a week down there. If you want a good crappie guide, give Harry Hall of Hardtime Guide Service a call. He is the best on the lake. His home number i (870) 481-5630. I am using him again this next Saturday. There are a number of motels in Mountain Home, so you don't want to waste your money on resorts. Good Luck.

I just found the info I had on a walley guide at Bull Shoals. His name is David Elling, phone number (870) 431-4583. Last number I had for him. It is never to early to start calling a guide. The good ones get booked up early.

Got to give my buddies a plug here....
Norfork river resort is below the dam near where the Norfork and White merge. Steve McCumber owns the place and can fix you up with lodging and guides on the river for trout or on the lake. You and the kids will have a good time staying there.

    Default bite on Norfork

    hstpat
Bite was not there..at least for us last week, water temps right at 40 degrees. Ended up doing well fishing for trout after a cold, bluebird sky 9 hour day on Norfork. Air temps are supposed to be into the 70's soon..like this weekend or early next week, so water will be moving up quickly..especially in the north coves that get the warm sun..good luck!

If you want your 8 year old to have some fun, get a trout rig and take him to Dry Run Creek below Norfork Dam by the hatchery... It's limited to fishing for under age 16 (or handicapped) and the kids have a great time since there are PLENTY of trout and BIG trout. You'll just be amazed to be seeing that many HUGE trout and not be able to fish for them yourself....
