Default Lake Poinsett to be drained / closed for a few years

Just saw this story......grew up fishing this lake with my grandpa. Haven't fished it in years but I am sure this is going to be a tough deal for alot of the locals that don't have other places to go.

Saw that too. It's going to put a lot more pressure on Lake Hogue.

Which isn't great, considering the decline Hogue has been in the last 2 years or so.

This is badly needed to make the necessary repairs. Unfortunately , it will have an impact on the local area.

We started discussing this when I was over there.

It's been the mid 80's since I have been on Poinsett. I told myself several times that I was going to make the drive over one day just simply for the nostalgia of being there again and the memories I had with my grandpa. Although he never thought we were going to catch anything he sure didn't hesitate to let me go with him and we usually brought home a few for supper anyway. In general he wasn't the most patient man, but when he got on the water it was a different story. My dad really didn't fish, so I am grateful for my grandpa instilling that love of wetting a hook in me. Guess this is my wake up call that I better make the trip soon. Hopefully in a few years it will be a great fishery once again for those in that area.

How long will it be drained Mojo? Will it actually be dry for "years'?

I just read about this today. Kinda shocked me to be honest. If I read it correctly it will be 2020 before they start letting it fill up again?

Sorry, I am out of the loop on time line. The article does say 2020. It probably will take that long with the projects they have planned.

AGFC did a similar project on Lower White Oak Lake. It took 2 years to complete
