    Default Spider rigging help needed

I'm trying to get set up to spider rig fish. I need some input from some of you that do it's to a fishfinder. The problem I'm having is some of the better ones have transom mount transponder and show you what you have just passed. They say the side scan doesn't work off a trolling motor mount. I'd just like to hear from some folks that have it figured out and what works for them. Thanks, lucky 13

I can only speak for me personaly.
I think techknoledgy is wonderfull, to a point, and it also depends on who its pointed at.
I also think it is (extremely) important to always be in touch with the amount/depth of water under your boat.
And its also good to know where the breaks/dropoffs are as well.
I have a $100 Humminbird on the bow of my boat with a trolling motor transducer that will give all that plus a lot more information.
I have another larger Humminbird on the console with the down imaging feature that for me at least is a waste.
If I were heavy into dock shooting, id probably want side scan.
I also think cell phones are wonderfull, and everybody should have one.
In case you break down someplace and need a tow truck. Or Sea tow lol.

I run a side scan on my console so you can search for structure/fish and a down scan mounted to the trolling motor to see contours, depth, fish and speed while fishing. If money was no option I would love to have the humminbird 360 on my trolling motor so I could see the fish/structure in front of me.

Thanks, yep, I'm not looking for the genie to point out the fish (although I'd pay good money for that) . I'm just interested in the basics . The depth , maybe speed, structure all off the front of the boat. Anything that is helpful from those of you that have used these rigs. Thanks

I have run several different units on front. Right now using a 597 DI unit with GPS. Gives me speed and depth. 90% of the time I'm running it on 2d. Anything looks interesting I can shift to DI. Don't see the need for all the other stuff on trolling motor for spider rigging. Even though I have a side scan unit also.

You said you needed help for spider rigging, so a speed reading is not needed, you don't go fast enough to need a speed reading spider rigging. Gps is great, but your be going to slow spider rigging for the gps to give you a reading to mark anything. So without those add on's, you can get by with just a cheap color unit without all the other stuff, and save money..Good Luck

In my opinion you need a good di unit and a Lake master card would be great.

    I have a Humminbird 1199, it has SI , DI & GPS.

I just bought an adapter to mount my transducer to my trolling motor. Shows Excellant detail while trolling. You see everything as you troll next to it.
