    Default The double minnow rig

In a fairly snag free environment, the double minnow rig is sure crappie death for suspended fish. I would say it is one of the more popular and best methods for catching a mess of fish in a pre spawn late winter bite when you have fish located or on the search for them. Got to take my good Friend Michael and his son Cole out and watch them pull in a nice mess of fish and some toads to boot. What a blast.

Nice looking fish! I still haven't experienced the spider. I bought rod holders and rods and reels last spring and I haven't even taken the rods and reels out of the package yet. It is hard to put down the gigging pole!

There are several versions of the double minnow rig, I like a medium sized blue or red wire hook and the most simple version of the rig to me is simply running the first hook up the main line three feet, then securing with a three wrap (to secure hook) loop knot 1-2 inches in length, About 18 inches below that I add a weight, Bull Shot (clamp on bullet weight from Water Gremlin, egg sinker, or large split shot, 10 inches below the weight i tie off another hook or even a jig. This rig is basically a Capps and Coleman rig without a three way swivel. It is a very fast and effective version to tie on the fly. Good Luck..

I love the Gigging pole as much as anybody, but in my humble opinion your leading a sheltered life Matt, You telling me as long as you have been on here you have never had anybody take you spider rigging and catch a mess. If so I need to correct that problem.

You are correct. I have never spider rigged. I would be happy to go with someone to see how it is done. I would be super pumped to go with the Pro!
