Default Fine Saturday In Sunny South Ark...

    New to Crappie.com...
Just wanted to share the day's catch. There are 16 in that pile and several are real whales. Would have had more but the old wore out fish basket had a hole in it!?!?!?
I guess that is just catch and release

    Ya'll catch-um

Nice catch. My uncles once had a wire basket nearly full of fish and the basket hung on an underwater stump and the line broke, sending the basket to the bottom of the lake. They tried for an hour to hang the basket with their hooks, but to no avail. GTT

Loos like a good day. I have lost a wire basket before as well. I always thought that these baskets were about as tough as you could get. A dock operator on Overcup told us that an otter has been chewing holes in people's wire baskets to get the crappie in them. Crazy!

Nice catch and welcome to Crappie.Com. You better plug the hole in that basket.

Back when I used to limb line and trotline for flathead catfish, I would go out and catch my bream for bait, I would hang them out in a wire basket to keep them alive between baiting trips daily, my baskets kept getting holes tore in it, and all my bait would be gone. Finally figured out what was happening one day when I lifted the basket and it was real heavy. Clamped to my basket was about a 40 - 50 pound Loggerhead/alligator snapping turtle, with his head stuck thru a hole in the basket and his claws stuck firmly to the basket, Needless to say I let him have the basket and its contents, I found a new place to hang my bait basket. The wire mesh basket was no challenge for him.

When i was a Young lad, I left a stringer of crappie setting in Lake Conway one time to take a break to have some lunch, It was cool and the fish seemed to be doing good. When I came back a hour or two later and lifted the stringer up the Conways Turtles had destroyed my fish. Same thing happened while the stinger hung over the side of my boat, with me in it fishing. Never have used a stringer again crappie fishing. Nothing goes to waste in Lake Conway in lake Conway's waters. I would imagine if a fellow drowned in Lake Conway and was not found, the turtles and catfish would have you picked cleaned , lickty split. Guess one could only hope he would make a great hole for some unsuspecting cat fisherman. Makes me think, would that be considered fisherman cannibalism if we eat a catfish that was eating human flesh. Welcome to the site.

I bought a new one today. I only use it this time of the year..... and I usually kept in the boat for emergencies. I hate to give away my tactics, but the wire basket is perfect for when I am wading and fishing shallow water.
