Default Waiting on the right time?

I'm in my first full calender year of chasing crappie on my own. I keep hear folks talk about over the last week or so , "waiting on the crappie to get right", " the water fixin to get right". This time of year, winter, what are we waiting for? What should I be looking for? Certain temp? I get it when you talking about bass fishing. But what's the magic times for crappie?

When Ice forms in the eyes of your rod and all the other people are at home cause its to cold. Then it is time to execute your "fill the freezer" crappie plan.
