    Default Lake Conway drawdown

I've noticed the lake has fallen considerably since I was out there last Saturday. I was told this is due to the AGFC letting water out to flood grassy lake/ bell slough. D10 could you tell me why this happening?

Duck Season Happening on Harris Brake too ! Everything seems low with little rain . Nimrod needs a gully washer to fill back up after the drawdown this summer .

Why can't the duck hunters hunt the river. Lake Conway is kept to low to be a watershed for a duck reserve!

They've done a simultaneous drawdown to bring the lake to winter pool/ flood bell slough WMA for a long long time now. Happens every year.

This is a written rule, law, bylaw/agreement that the AGFC has that the lake will provide water for The grassy lake water fowl area. It is nothing new and has happened since the conception of Lake Conway. They also have a agreement to provide a certain amount of water from the lake during the summer months to the farmers down stream. If we don't get some rain soon you will only see the lake get lower. As stated above this is also the time of the year they draw the lake 1 foot below summer elevation to allow for heavy winter and spring rains. If you are going to Conway to fish, use caution, as what ever might have been a foot deeper below surface of water is now a foot closer to the surface. Good luck and be safe make sure your insurance is up to date in the event of a incidental impact. Just my cents. Maybe D10 can explain the technical aspects, and they get technical.

We lower Lake Conway to 262.0 feet (1 foot below normal pool of 263.0 feet) every year as a precaution against flooding. Multiple hydrology studies conducted by independent companies have told us this is what we need to do. Until we are able to replace the dam with a weir spillway, we will need to continue this practice. The flooding of the WMA is just a by product of us releasing water. If the lake is already below winter pool, we don't release water.

Harris Brake is different. Harris Brake was built with federal funds for the specific purpose of flooding the WMA. Wildlife Management is responsible for operating the gate. They are allowed to take as much water as needed to flood the WMA.

Okay, that makes sense...but what is at today? It appears you have quit releasing water.

It is barely above 262.0, normal winter pool. The gates were opened on Monday around noon and closed early yesterday morning (open less than 3 days. Due to the lack of rain, we only had to drop it 4/10th of a foot to get it down to 262.0.
