    Default 2016 Greers Ferry (Choctaw) Habitat Project


    This year the AGFC Fisheries Division began implimenting large scale habitat projects for lakes around the state. The first of these large scale projects was on Greers Ferry Lake at Choctaw. With assistance from other biologist from around the state and the local Greers ferry Corps of Engineers employees, D-10 was able to cut and place 300 large cedar trees into 18 large brush piles. Most of these piles have around 16 trees! This project would not have been possible with the assistance from other fisheries employees around the state and the local Corps guys. I was so busy working that I forgot to take pictures. However, I am sure that some pictures and videos will surface eventually with a story about this project. I do have a map and coordinates for yall though. If you can get close to the coordinates and scan anywhere from 20-25 fow. You should be able to find the piles.     I should also mention that large scale projects like this will continue in the future, as it is written into the AGFC Fisheries Division Strategic Plan. So stay tuned for future projects.

    Good job . I been trying to get AGFC and COE both to rebuild the ones ( on COE maps ) on Nimrod that were placed in the 1990's . Only ones rebuilt (4 ) about 5 years ago, were the ones the Crappie.com members and COE helped with a few years back and we furnished trees , weights and zip ties . Sounds like you are doing a great job in your district .
