Kayak fishing is a blast, I just got into it this year and am seriously thinking about selling my big boat. I fish year round and cold weather fishing Ina kayak may not be for me. But I plan to give it a try.

Cold isn't actually that bad. I keep a drybag full of a complete change just in case of bad situations but I've never had to use it. The worst though is trying to track down the crappie when they're holding deep over cover during the coldest winter months. Unless the water is just glass you're not going to be able to effectively hold over structure to get that jig/minnow right in front of their face in 10+ feet of water during the pickiest of eating habits patterns and they're stacked like firewood.
After three years of completely miserable January and February trips in a kayak, I pretty much just retire after Christmas until March. It's miserable to finally see a fishfinder stacked with crappie after paddling around for hours, but then have a face full of 30-degree 10+ mph wind, and be completely unable to get that jig in front of them because you're fighting your rods, paddles and waves.
