    Default Lake Overcup

I fished Overcup from 8 am till 5 pm yesterday and did not catch a single crappie. There were very few on the graph either, but did seen some shad balls. Water temp was 47 to 49 degrees and seems quite warm for mid Feb. Eight poles in spider rig with 2 hooks per pole, one would have thought at least one stray would have been snagged. Not sure when or if this lake will obtain the level of crappie that was present prior to draw down to repair the levee. There were some guys there who just came in from running yo yo's and they had 8 to 10 really nice crappie and said only bit was occurring at night. Of course pictures of these were taken and put on facebook indicating that this is what is being caught there. I was also shocked at minnow prices being $18 per pound. Ten miles east of where I live the cost per pound is $5 per pound. I believe I will drive east before I head to any lakes in west AR.

The $5 price is wholesale at the minnow farm. If I cannot run down the owner/operator I can buy minnows all day long at DesArc for $11/lb or go to Clarendon and pay $9/lb. I understand markup but 300% profit is a little excessive. Thank God we live in a free country where competition keeps prices in check.

Water level just slightly above what I typically encounter. The stumps are maybe 6 inches below the surface and few visible. The water clarity is a little green and I would assume this is from fertilization of the lake. Lake Conway is much clearer but AGFC does not put fertilizer into this lake. With Nimrod getting near normal level I hope to give it a try very soon.

We have not fertilized any of our lakes yet.
