Nimrod, I figure and I bet you'd agree, you could single handedly have a direct impact on 2 fisheries if given permission from the AGFC. I've read that you fish 200 days per year. I've read on slow days you catch 75 fish. I've read that the beggars around there are quite particular on their charitable hand outs. So, I offer you this:
On a below average year of 200 slow days of fishing (75 fish) you're going to boat 15,000+ fish. You, nor the beggars want the overcrowded dinks. The gizzard shad are too big for the dinks to eat, so the dinks are not gonna get any bigger. and must be eradicated or removed. I propose and would support an initiative by the AGFC that allows you, Nimrod, to first and foremost keep the 1,000 or so fish per year that you wish to personally consume. Here's where it becomes win/win for all..... Carry the remaining 14,000+ fish below the dam to be released into the Fouche River.
You'd be improving both fisheries, feeding yourself and maybe a few others, as well teaching the beggars a lesson that beggars can't be choosers. I don't remember the old adage being: Give a man a fish, feed him for a day but next time he'll want bigger fish.
Anyway, I don't know what Leone would think about this, but I say it's worth consideration at minimum... I think you'd be overly qualified for the gig !

Even if it was possiable , you could not keep them alive easily. If they were transported below the Dam what good would it do to put all those small fish in a spot already with plenty of fish ? It is also illegal to transport fish from one body of water to another . I know several guys who haul buckets full of Crappie to their ponds quite regularly . They don't seem to understand you can't stockpile fish .

This would be a good idea. Especially if the fish were moved to some of the smaller more bank fishing oriented type impoundments that the AGFC owns and stocks. They'd be stocking catch and keep ready size fish for those weekend anglers that use them. I don't know where all of those little lakes/ponds are, but I think the AGFC stocks them with cats and even some with trout and I've heard it draws quite a few fishermen when they do it. Not that the AGFC wants or needs my thoughts, but I like the idea CJ.
I know that a few of the Conway Public Schools have small waters on them and the PE programs have fishing days and special fishing events hosted there from time to time, so that's one example of the type of places I was referring to.
I think that would be a mistake, as stocking Crappie in a small pond will create the same over crowding problem that Nimrod is experiencing now. They will quickly eat up all of the bait fish in a pond like that.
I was referring to lakes such as Ouachita and Degray, that aren't exactly known for their Crappie population. But, I have no idea what will work. Just throwing an idea out there.

CMJ, when you gonna take me fishing on Lake Conway? I haven't got a clue, but need your support so I can keep fishing the stump busting lake. I like Dano's, at Gold Creek, but also fish Adams, Hwy89 at Chuck's, just haven't got a clue on what I am doing. Old man and have to pee a lot, but can stay out there as long as you can. Just ask Dan, he will vefify that I can start at 5 am, end at 8 pm and not catch a one, and still have a good day!!!!! Retired, and who cares. My boat or your's. Mine is 14 ft. SeaArk, Lowrance Gen2 Touch HDS 7. I love to tight line, or bobber, whatever.

It's still a little too early for the Fall frenzy on Conway, but I'm sure you can snag one here and there. I went Friday and they were still on the trees in the main lake. I did pick up 6 between the iron bridge and the I-40 bridge. They are usually fired up by now, but we still need a good cold rain, and/or a few good frosts.
When things get going you are welcome to hop In the boat with me. I will keep you posted.....

Big stripers love gizzard shad and won't reproduce. Don't know if lake N would support a couple of thousand. They might take out a few of the dinks along the way.
