I would like to see ya shake them off an Southern Pro Umbrella Tube rigged up like I use without hooking them . I many times fish two jig poles but have to put one under my leg while removing the hook from a Crappie, before I can get it back in my hand have another hooked pulling on the second pole with nothing but a jig on it . Got several folks that will back this up , no hook set needed .

Iv'e seen it first hand what NIMROD said, i fished with him, two poles and you have to hold one under your leg while removing fish from the other pole and the fish set the hook them self on the other pole.

Its not just with Southern Pro tubes. I see it all the time with Bobby Garland, Midsouth, and Crappie Magnet. Them little buggers can be aggressive at times!

    Prayer Request

To me the future is not looking good for the lake if the crappie don't have the right size shad to feed on, if I'm reading the report right. I sure hope that changes for the lake...

If they get a good hatch every spring it works but other wise the smaller fish suffer . Gizzard Shad grow too big fast and Threadfins will not survive the winter in these shallow lakes .

Isn't there lots of 20'+ water in Nimrod in the Winter? Conway is only 12' at its deepest hole in the Winter and the Threadfin population thrives there. Most of the schools of Shad hang out in the 8-10ft range all Winter long...

The water here usually gets flushed out with winter rains . Threadfins can't take cold water . Sure there are Threadfin Shad in Conway ? Dardanelle sometimes has a huge Shad winter kill . Biologist told me we only have Gizzard Shad here .

Threadfin Shad are quite temperature sensitive, they are intolerant to cold water. High moralities occur at 45 º F (7 º C), and most fish are dead at 40 º F (4.4 º C).

Well I don't know dilly about the problem, but I've seen some very large and healthy crappie that Mr. Nimrod has caught, so something right is going on there.....

Yes, I'm sure. We sometimes have big Shad kills like any other lake, but they thrive here in spite of that and shallow depths. Sorry, I ain't buying it.

Chris is right. There is threadfin shad in Conway. They are also in Overcup and Harris Brake. I am also surprised that there aren't any threadfin in Nimrod. I think that there are at least some threadfin in most sizable water bodies in the state.
