Default Greers Ferry what can you tell me?

I am from Missouri and fish Missouri,Illinois and Kentucky.Just never made it down to Arkansas (to fish that is.) I have had it in my mind I wanted to scope out the Ebers Springs area as maybe even a possible retirement place when that time rolls around in about 10 years. I love Kentucky Lake and Barkley. And some of the smaller lakes in Illinois.I am in the Southeast corner of Missouri and have only fished Tablerock once and Lake of the Ozarks once.

I been thinking if I set down on a body of water to fish in retirement I need something big with a lot of species to keep me interested. Pollution is getting to be a real problem around here, and the asian carp.A big highland reservoir with good water quality in the Ozark foothills appeals to me.

Seen reports that the fishery has declined in recent years. Is it really that bad?I am the kind of guy if you leave me somewhere long enough I can usually figure out a pattern to catch something.

I would really appreciate some help and advice.

First off, welcome to the site. Greers Ferry is a beautiful lake and the surrounding area is beautiful too. A great area to retire in. But the crappie fishing isn't the best Arkansas has to offer. But you can certainly catch crappie there consistently using various methods. It's a great walleye and hybrid lake (please catch all the hybrids you can and don't release) and there is a lot of bass fishing there as well. But it's not home of the 3lb crappie, or even the 2lb crappie. It's been decades since I've caught a 2lb'er there. But I might would consider living there but knowing I'm within driving distance to other great crappie fishing lakes within a hour or two of driving.

Greers Ferry Lake would be a great place to retire. It is world class fishery holding 2 state records and 2 world records. There are some great guides on the lake for all species. It gets crowded during the summer but with retirement you dont have to fish on the weekend. Being a dry county the towns are very laid back. Arkansas would welcome you with open arms.

Its good crappie fishing once you figure them out. Also, 2 good trout fishing rivers very close, and great crappie fishing within a short drive all around. Its a very beautiful part of the state to be in. JMHO.

Heber Springs is a beautiful area and Arkansas is blessed with numerous lakes and streams all within a short drive of Greers Ferry.

Heber is very nice, but also look into the Hot Springs area, and Bull Shoals area.

Don't overlook the area around Russellville or Conway. Both nice towns right on top of some of the best fishing in the state.
