I think there are several good options out there. PAM should work great....I was told that BG uses mineral oil in their packaging. That's what makes the baits have the oily finish when new. It could have been hearsay, but I've tries it and it works great. A little goes a LONG ways. A drop is all that is needed most times and it's cheap.

Well this is the season for giving, we could put those plastics that we will probably never use anyway in the hands of young anglers that may not be able to buy what we have to much of, that way we wont have to worry about keeping all this stuff and let them condition those plastics for us by using them, and we in turn condition young anglers to take up where we leave off. My dad died when I was 11 years old, so I can look back then and see were it would have been a big blessing if someone would have helped me back then in fishing. We can't take this stuff with us anyway. It's just like our trucks someday they will wind up in the junk yard. My Pastor said there are two types of people, there is givers, and holders

Great Idea brokepole, I have five Grand Children coming up who stand to inherit a lot of hunting and fishing tackle and I have given away 1000'S in tackle either directly or indirectly to folks of all walks of life. Love to Give.

But for the purpose of this thread I am just trying to find out what is the best solution to put on our baits weather we use them or not.

I asked this same question couple of years ago and came up with mineral oil. couple of drops in plano box, or few drops in ziploc baggy. never used the pam, but I like the idea. Got to try that.

Anise oil. Count me a holder, and even still, a humble fisher of men too. I have almost fifty pounds of ancient soft plastics divided between two over-stuffed tri-fold worm organizer bags, collected over oceans of fishing trips going back to the early 80's. Most I bought in bulk back when they were widely available that way. Most came in anise oil, and are still in it, all separated in ziplock bags. All seem to be as good as new. Last time I checked anise oil was inexpensive. My cost on those were about one tenth the price of them now. Some have not been seen in the water for 25 years...old is new again as far as the fish know: whatever conditioning the fish had to them is long gone. (Anyone fished a four-inch fire & ice, cotton candy or camo ring worm lately?) I cannot perceive a softening or hardening of the plastic in any of them. They are like the day I bought them. I sure wish I was. Anise oil.

I know one time I tried to lubricate some of my Midsouth tubes with original Baitmate which I think has an anise oil compound and it hardened them right up and I had to throw them away. Thought it would be ok cos i used it on several of my other plastics with no problems, but I am telling you it flat ruined my Midsouth plastics. Any body else had this happen?

WD-40? Never thought of that one Jerry.
