Default Question for biologists about Bryozoans

The jelly looking Bryozoans are suppose to filter the water as it feeds. We had a huge nutrient load and algae bloom this summer. Is that why we are seeing so many of these on wood in Nimrod now ?

We have seen a lot of Bryozoa on several of our lakes this summer. We even saw Bryozoa forming on marker buoys that we used in Overcup for the habitat project. They were in the lake for only 4 days! I'm not positive but I would think that extra nutrients leading to additional algae blooms would cause a boom in their population. I wouldn't say that this is very unusual. Every summer we see Bryozoa in about every lake in D-10.
