    Default 12 Volt Battery

I'm needing to purchase a 12 volt battery for my new Lowrance Elite 4 fishfinder gps. That will be the only job the battery will have btw. I'm thinking I won't need a full size car battery. I'd like to not have to deal with the weight. I'd also like to have enough capacity to last a full weekend of fishing.

I've looked at the smaller lawn tractor batteries and they seem to be just right.

I'd appreciate any advice so I only have to do this once!!

    Thanks all,

    Lee

I figure the lawn tractor battery will last a weekend, but don't know for sure. Small gell, similar to what they have as a battery backup in an alarm system, would be nice.

You can get by with a lot smaller battery than a lawn tractor battery a much smaller sealed lead acid battery such as the one RCC mentioned. I used a bad four Wheeler battery for my portable elite 5 dsi many times before somewhat recharging. Mounted the unit on top of a plastic lunch box, battery inside and transducer pole that I clamped on back of boat. Took it anytime I fished with friends.

    Hi Cray,

That look like the perfect solution. No worry about any leakage, small package, easy to maintain.
Believe I'll just go ahead and order one. I like the idea of being able to just bring the ff into the house and work on way points sitting in my easy chair!!

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

My smaller lawn tractor batteries work like a charm

I use that Cabela's battery for working Elite 5 inside. Works great but had too get an extra power cord.

I just received one of the small sealed batteries today. As I don't leave the ff in the boat I'm thinking just bringing the whole setup inside. Light enough and then I can do what ever I need to manage way points and such.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

Lee, find you one of those padded soft side lunch boxes. All your stuff should fit inside. Make it easier to keep up with.
