I loves me some black crappie. I always thought they fought harder..........

Hey Matt........years ago when we fished Greeson every spring, we'd get into some black ones and a FEW of them were........well, totally black! I've never, ever, seen a crappie look like those. If you looked real close, you could see normal crappie markings, but barely.....mostly it was if they'd been dipped in black paint. We never knew who to ask, or why this happened, and I've never seen it since. Ideas???

Yes sir, very close. I can remember distinctly a FEW that were even blacker than that.....almost NO white specks visible without holding up to the light.

I just assumed they were like people..........some have different melanin than others. But I don't know.
