I don't know about cheaper, but I use my Harley FXRG winter riding gear. Figure if it can keep me warm riding the Harley's in the winter when I was in Pennsylvania, it can keep me warm in the boat. My gear is about 13 or 14 years old now and still holding up really well.

Just looked Harley doesn't show the FXRG gear I have, guess they don't make it anymore, but found these guys that have some good motorcycle winter gear. Cold Weather Jackets - RevZilla When I was in South Carolina in the mid 80s, we got snow mobile suits pretty cheap and used them.

I just wear my hunting clothes. The way I see it is If they keep me warm while wading around in ice water they should keep me warm in the boat. Only difference is I wear a pair of insulated bib overalls instead of waders.

When it's gonna be cold all day. Its the chest waders for me. The neoprene isn't that uncomfortable and it is always warm and dry. I also wear a regular vest type life jacket rather than the inflatable.

I wear the chest waders if it's raining or real windy. Never get cold in them.

I've had an Arctic Ice bibs and parka for several years now, and I really like it. It's waterproof, fairly light, and it will float you. I fish all winter, and it's kept me warm.

I have a parka and bibs that are Academy's brand they sell over in the snowsuit stuff. It's advertised as skiing stuff, but it's super-warm, comfortable and water-resistant. I figure if it's cold enough to wear a parka and bibs, I'm not going to hang out in the rain, so waterproof really doesn't matter to me.
If you wait until February or March, you can get it for a steal when they're clearancing (not many skiiers in Central Arkansas). I think I got the parka for $50 and the bibs for like $30 two years ago. It was less than $100 for the whole getup.
