Transducer mounting

I'm looking at buying some new electronics for the bow of the boat. I've got a lowrance graph there now but was thinking I would move it to the console and use it to watch depth while running the outboard.
I've got an aluminum hull and was wondering if I can shoot through the hull on an aluminum boat. I really don't want it on the transom as I am not afraid to slide over a log or bust through a log jam. I figure I'll tear the transducer off if its on the transom.
