We still stock Lake Frierson annually with Saugeye.

Here is what we stocked in 2012:

    12,050 Fingerlings
    10,098 Catchable

Thanks mojo for the info on Ashbaugh...I always wondered why Frierson for saugeye...seems like (due to depth and water clarity) saugeye would get heat stressed...and there is not a lot of info out there on how to catch a saugeye...I would like to know how to fish for them (like tommyboyrn)...again thanks mojo...

    Crankbaits,minnows,nightcrawlers,jigs,spinnerbaits ,trolling,casting and jigging.
Don't wad your nightcrawler up on the hook like when catfishing, rig him like you do a plastic worm for bass fishing.Caught several just setting on the bank and fishing the ditch that goes under the hwy, guess its a feeder ditch to the lake.

Turtlebait and Billy E...thanks for the info on fishing for saugeye...I can do most of that stuff...except that yankee jigging...big jig head with a shiner on it...looks like they run the hook of the jig thru the shiners mouth, down thru his gullet and out the top of his head...obviously kills the shiner instantly...fishing with dead shiners is completely alien to me...but, according to the video they catch walleye...I have caught walleye (mostly by mistake) on Spring River...using a yum crawdad on a standup jig head...anyway thanks for the info...

You think crappie are picky eaters the eyes can make them look like sissys.
They can suck a minnow or nightcrawler off the hook faster than a fly chaseing stink.
Some times you have to have a stinger hook in the tail of the minner or worm then when they are thumping hard trying to swallow the bait a steel leader is a go to.Dark cloudy days, hour or two before sun up and right at dark are the best times to chase them.I said chase not catch b/c they are picky eater too.Love pulling crankbaits in the rivers for them,a fast wobble tail cranks work best....

I've caught a few saugeye out of Lake Hogue while crappie fishing, but its been a few years since i have. I've fished spring river for over 20 years for trout using rooster tails, rebel crawdads, rapalas, and small cranks, and have only caught one walleye. I need to figure out how to catch them. Sure was good eating. I've been wanting to go up to cold springs access in the boat , and fish the deeper water. Just don't really know how to fish for them.
