I really would like to buy a si fishfinder and I think the humminbird 598 si is about as much as I can pay. Is it a good one for the money or should I save my money

My opinion is to save up. That's a small screen to try and run si. It may be ok if you just looked at one side at a time but the smallest I think I would want to go is 898. I just think it would be fristrating for you trying to read the si images and the detail will be diminished on such a small scale.

I have that model on the front of my boat!! A very good unit for the price. I have mine on a raised mount were it's right in front of me and I can reach it without bending over. the si do'nt work real well off the trolling motor but thats not the units fault.

I bought the 598 and compared it side by side with the 898 and didn't see any advantage with only about an inch more actual display on the screen for the money u think it's a good unit but I haven't got to use mine yet

I'm going to run this unit off the back and I got a 581 hd di to run off the front I've heard and read the side imaging doesn't work well off the trollingmotor , just wanted the sideimaging to be able to cover more water and locate brush pile allot quicker and easier as u can cover larger areas with it

The only difference is the 598 has only one card slot instead of two , two and ahalf inch smaller screen and about 600.00 !!!!!!

The price is like that on all graphs going up in size. But you fellas have that graph I don't I have a 998. Do you ur. Both left and right si on the screen at the same time or just one side at a time? If its not to bad to run on the smaller screen I might buy one for my Jon boat. I have a 596 c hd di for it now but I haven't installed it would much rather have the side image.
