Ah,,I love it, first time I've logged in a month and step smack dab in the middle of the trawler/single poler arguement...If your sole purpose is to catch the maximum number of fish, buy your minners, get lots of poles, and dragum all over the danged lake.
Being retired, and quite possibly retarded, to step in this arguement, I don't have to catch a limit, I like too, but its not the only reason I'm out there. At this stage of the game, I don't want to make fishing a job/work..I want it to be a pastime that I can enjoy, if I catch enough for a good mess, I'm purty happy, frankly, I wish they would forbid spider rigging...how about that?
Yep,,some are tired of hearing about it, I'm sure,,this is not a commerical endeavor, or shouldn't be. Its about relaxing, seeing the national bird swoop down and take his meal, or the color of the rock formations on the cliffs, looking at the caves and wondering if some indian once sat huddled there,,trying to build a fire in a down pour...hey,,thats how I see it! Cheers!!!

Funny this is such a touchy subject over here. Growing up on Reelfoot, it's just how people have crappie fished for decades. I never thought twice about it til I moved here and started reading the petty arguments y'all have. I'm neither a Hatfield nor a McCoy, I love jig fishing, but I don't lose sleep after a successful day spider rigging either.

Ski trip, Sorry I am late with my reply. My first love is casting at those crappie, letting that jig slow sink and feel that thump. Second love is vertical with one or two poles. I tried spidering but didn't care for it but that's just me, may be that I am too old and lazy. I don't use minnows cause I have caught all I need with jigs and I tie a lot of mine and enjoy catching fish on my own ties. My son and I went to Piney new years day and a man and his son fished close to us using minnows and was catching 5 to our one. I finally figured out that I was under fishing the fish. I raised my jig to 12 feet and in no time we had a double limit of fat a---sed crappie. If the need arises I will buy a bucket of minnows. They were used years before there were jigs.
    It ain't nuttin but luck.

Being a good crappie fisherman often involves more than one method of fishing and using both live and artificial bait. I've never understood why someone would want to limit themselves by simply being hardheaded. I mainly troll due to my physical limitations but some people simply fish one way due to their mental limitations. Just say'n

I'm a crappie guide guys I spider-rig when I have clients and if the crappie are biting on crickets that's what were fishing. I'm going to make my clients day as good of an experience as I can, but I don't care to here from people saying I'm not a true sportsman if I fish that way. I do know how to fish with just one pole and artificial bait only the proof is there. You guys please don't think this is some kind of brag feast it not I just get tired of certain people pushing others down to make themselves look like a crappie god.

One Heck of a Trophy Don...I have an idea what you went through to win that. You deserve it brother and I'll tell anybody your the best Durn... Crappie Fisherman I Know...Goes to show ya if the One Pole Champion is telling you to use minnows or try Trolling you should listen...Dont mean you can't look at an eagle or imagine indians squating around. For you guys that just use one pole all the time or just use jigs...OK WE GET IT!!!! but do you honestly got to consistently cut other's method's down? Just because they are not your method. Geese... this is the last I'll speak on this subject and if it does pop up again the only response from me will be the beating of a deadhorse. I always wondered what was inscribed on it Don. LOL
