Lake Conway ( drying up )!!!!
Well guys and gals as you have seen over the last few weeks I have been trying to keep everyone aware as to the condition of Lake Conway, WELL IT BAD. Here is my recommendation drive very slowly and be very cautious, now is the time to run in the old creek channels if you know how, as I do. The boat lanes are to say the least dangerous as they lead you into a false sense of security, just because you don't see stumps in the trails don't mean they ain't there, trust me they are there. The old creek channels are a lot safer than the boat lanes. I was out there this past weekend and I know of two boats that got substantial damage by being lulled into that false sense of security. I have been watching the lake level over the last couple of weeks and we are losing anywhere from 3 to 6 inches of water level a week due to the lack of precipitation and evaporation due to high temps. Also there are thousands and thousands of gallons of water going out of the lake daily to be used by the state to wet down the dirt they are using to build the new interstate system around Conway. We need rain and we need it in a bad way. At the rate the lake is drying up it will be the same as a regular draw down before to long. The hot weather has had some affect on the shallow water lake, up until is started dropping at such a rapid rate the fishing was still going strong, but over the course of the last 3 or 4 weeks I have experience a slow down in the bite, still catching limits but having to work harder for them.
Welcome to the home of the, boat eating, trolling motor busting, prop bending, lower unit smashing, stump filled mud hole called Lake Conway.
