Default Moon had little effect on Hamelton bass last night

I think I started in down by the dam around 10pm and by 4am I only had one small bass i'd caught so I loaded up and came in! I keyed in on all deep banks, main lake points and deeper points, mostly dragging a T-rig slow down the sides of them. I did toss a black spinnerbait a lot too. Also used the c-rig, and deep diving crank with no takers. Hard to believe a lake that big and deep has that little when it comes to fish! My next trip will be in search of the bream, pre-daylight, lively crickets and a full trolling motor charge. I was about the only person on the water last night and given my results I can see why.

Never heard anyone skunked so often. Better get you a guide or atleast a local to show you a spot or two.

This time of year on Hamilton you need to throw large (10-12") plastic worm rigged Texas style into deeper brush piles. If that don't do the trick throw a black spinnerbait in the same areas.

Well normally I would toss the big snake but last year they wouldn't commit to the worm? They wanted brushhogs and spinnerbaits better. I'd say the average fish on Hamelton isn't much bigger than a 10-12" worm. I told my buddy we need to hit a different lake before this moon leaves us.

Actually there are some pretty good bass in Hamilton. It is not uncommon at all to see bass in the 5-8 pound range weighed in during the night fishing tournaments and there are multiple 10 pounders caught out there each year. I used to bass fish that lake 3-5 nights a week during this time of year including two regular weekly tournaments and I've caught more big bass on it than I have on Ouachita. The key to the summer pattern is brush piles but theyre not all created equal. You have to find the ones that consistently hold fish or build your own.

I think you are right. You need to find a different lake to fish and than you can complain about that one. Some people can catch fish on HAMILTON and some can't. I think you are one of those who can't. They say insanity is doing the same things over and over again expecting different results. Mabe it is time to make a change.

I'll agree with the change part for whatever reason some may bring up. I do know this though even the tourn. pro's can barely manage 10-12LB sacks in the night tournaments. Ron Sheffield admitted that much to a buddy of mine. Like me and another guy were saying if those guys can't catch the big fish, they ain't there! All techniques mentioned will work though and brush helps this time of the year that's for sure. Gilliam lake report from this morning was 50+ bream at last check this morning by my buddy's dad so they are bedding on some lakes, not on the Ham. right now though. Said this before though If your lake has fish whether is be crappie, bass, bream, whatever feel lucky, cause they ain't everywhere. In any case I'm ready to try different places, lakes that is.

Well I spoke to a friend about heading up there last night. However, this time of the year, HOT WEATHER, if i'm bassin i'm going at night. Going to a lake you don't know at night isn't what I wanna do. I told him we need to make some trips up that way once weather gets better. If i were to head up there crappie fishing it would have to be extra early. Just feel fortunate they are there Nim. I told you I had family not that far from there so I know there's good fishing up that way even though we never hit Nimrod lake. That F.River used to be loaded with cats and from what JB, told me his dad tears the catfish up there year in and year out so I know what your saying. Think what you want of me but fact is the some lakes are better than others. I was just shocked as big as these lakes are no more fish to be had?? I've not set lines for cats on Hamelton yet but there's a string dropping from every other bush in that lake and a dock on just about every other bush but we all know lots of people live on the lake. I'm not about to tie anything to someone else's dock though. As I said in another post it's a free lake and I'll fish around any dock I want but the dock is their property and I can respect that.
